An Easy Thanksgiving Leftovers Recipe

An easy way to eat leftovers from Thanksgiving is to just make yourself a plate and heat it up. And repeat. But if you’re looking for a way to transform your leftovers try these Leftover Stuffing Cakes!

This leftover recipe will use up your leftover turkey gravy too. But I”m telling you, we love this recipe so much that we make it all year long, even if we don’t have leftover stuffing. In comes that famous boxed stuffing that we all grew up with…just make up a serving or two and form it into these stuffing cakes.

How Do You Make Leftover Stuffing Cakes?

If you’re using a stuffing like our Favorite Sausage Stuffing recipe that has larger pieces of bread and sausage, you can give it a pulse or two in your food processor to make the stuffing pieces smaller and more uniform.

But if you’re stuffing has that smaller “Stove Top” consistency, you’re good to go. Just add your leftover stuffing to a bowl along with an egg and a couple of tablespoons of whole milk or cream.

Your stuffing should already be perfectly seasoned, but if you want to add a little more salt and pepper you can add that if you’d like.

Form the mixture into cake similar to the size that you’d make a crab cake and refrigerate for at least an hour. You can do this up to over night but an hour will let them firm up so they don’t fall apart when you fry them.

Add a few tablespoons of butter to a skillet and cook the stuffing cakes until they’re crispy and warmed through.

    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • 4 tablespoons butter
    • Leftover Turkey Gravy or make our Brown Gravy Recipe, no drippings needed!

    FAQs

How long is leftover stuffing good for? ›

If stuffing is prepared ahead of time, it must be either frozen or cooked immediately. To use cooked stuffing later, cool in shallow containers and refrigerate it within 2 hours. Use it within 3 to 4 days.

How many days after Thanksgiving can you eat leftovers? ›

The answer is simple: leftovers can be kept in the refrigerator for three to four days. This means you have until the Monday after Thanksgiving to eat all those delicious leftovers or place them in the freezer to enjoy later. If you store leftovers in the freezer, they will be of best quality within 2-6 months.

Can I freeze leftover stuffing? ›

Like we said, you can also freeze stuffing after it's baked. This option is better for freezing leftovers rather than prepping ahead. If you happened to make too much stuffing, you can portion the leftovers into food storage containers and pop in the freezer to enjoy during the days to come.

Why can't you refrigerate uncooked stuffing? ›

USDA recommends that you never refrigerate uncooked stuffing. Why? Remember, stuffing can harbor bacteria, and though bacteria grow slower in the refrigerator they can cause problems because stuffing is a good medium for bacteria growth, therefore a higher risk food in terms of cooking safely.

How do you reheat stuffing without drying it out? ›

Heat the oven to 350°F and transfer the stuffing to an oven-safe dish (or, you can keep it in the dish that it was originally cooked in). If it seems dry, you'll want to add a splash of broth. Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes, then remove foil and bake again until crisp, 15–20 minutes.

Is it better to freeze stuffing, cooked or uncooked? ›

Can you eat cold stuffing? ›

Is stove top stuffing bad for you? ›

Like many convenience foods, Stove Top stuffing has gotten a bad rap in recent years, especially from people who have *opinions* about what is healthy to eat. It's got too much sodium, there are weird ingredients that you can't pronounce, and it's just better to make your own stuffing. But “better” is subjective.
