First-time-mom baby registries typically include between 100 and 120 items. This should be more than enough to cover everything you will need for your baby. Because with any type of baby registry, the aim is to only get things for your baby that you will actually need and use.
You can create a registry in person at your local department store, big-box store like Target or Walmart, or independent retailer. You can also make a baby registry online through many retailer sites, a popular option being Amazon.com.
What are baby registry must-haves for a first-time parent? Some essential items that you'll want are a comfortable and safe crib, a stroller that fits your lifestyle, a car seat that meets safety standards, a breast pump and bottles. Diapers, wipes and diaper rash cream are also must-haves for any new parent.
That said, it's totally acceptable to put some expensive items on your registry. You can list the things you need, including items like car seats and cribs. Pooling together for group presents is popular, and several friends might pitch in to get a stroller or crib.
The good news for off-the-registry shoppers is that most moms-to-be (84 percent) are open to receiving a baby gift they didn't register for. And only one in six poll respondents (16 percent) find it rude to be given an off-registry item. Experts say if you do go off-registry, it's best to think practical.
When creating a baby registry, it's essential to balance having enough items for your guests to choose from without overwhelming them. A good rule of thumb is to have various items at different price points, so guests can choose what they feel comfortable buying. Generally, 100 to 120 items is a good range.
For a newborn, it's advisable to register for around 2-3 large packs of newborn size diapers, as babies can go through 8-10 diapers a day in their first weeks.
What week should I do my baby registry? Totally up to you! You can start early or wait. 20 weeks is a good rule of thumb if you're planning on adding gender-specific things.
You won't need a high chair from the start, but many parents choose to add one to their registry so they have it on hand when it's time to start solids (usually around six months or so).
The AAP explains that you also want to avoid any pacifier that attaches to your baby's neck or hands or ties onto their crib, as these can endanger the child.
While it may seem counterintuitive to put size 1, 2, or 3 diapers on your registry, especially since the average baby weighs just 7.5 pounds, your little one will grow… quickly. Sizing up ensures you'll have the right diaper on hand when you and your baby come home from the hospital, and for months afterward.
They are often the first 'bed' that your baby will sleep in and can be used until they are around six months old. The main benefits for parents of using a Moses basket for their baby are: Moses baskets are lightweight and portable, making them easy to carry around the house.
How many gifts should be on my wedding registry? This age-old question has couples scratching their heads and overthinking their lists, even consulting guides on wedding registry etiquette so they don't appear greedy. But a good rule of thumb is to multiply your guest list by two to get a rough number of gifts to add.
Average gifts from family members range from $50 to $200. A cousin might spend $50, while a grandma or close Aunt might aim for a higher priced gift. If it's a really close friend, your budget might hover around $100.
The rule of thumb is to include a little more than 2 gifts per number of guests invited. So if you're inviting 100 people to your wedding, you should include about 225-250 items on your registry. Although this may seem high, it ensures that guests will have ample options when it comes time to pick out your gift.
For a guest list of 200, that would mean registering for around 400-600 items. On average, most couples divide their 400-600 items between two to three different wedding registry retailers. Make sure you give your guests a variety of items to choose from in different price ranges.
