FAQs

What is the number 1 brownie mix? ›

Best Overall Brownie Mix: Ghirardelli Double Chocolate Premium Brownie Mix. When you want a delicious brownie for a baking emergency—or just to treat yourself—look no further than a box of Ghirardelli Double Chocolate Brownies.

Does baking soda or powder go in brownies? ›

While cookies and cakes typically rely on baking powder as leavening, brownies require less leavening and can be made with baking soda in place of baking powder. Choose a recipe that relies solely on baking soda or create your own substitute for baking powder by combining baking soda and other ingredients.

Why won't the middle of my brownies cook? ›

Your oven is probably too hot or is heating unevenly. Buy a cheap oven thermometer to check the temperature of the thermostat setting. If the middle of your brownies are not cooking while the edges are burning, try lowering the oven temperature and/or extending the baking time.

Is Duncan Hines or Betty Crocker better for brownie mix? ›

If you like chewy, sticky brownies, I recommend: Betty Crocker Dark Chocolate Brownie Mix. If you like light, less dense brownies with a picture-perfect sugar top that flakes when sliced, I recommend: Duncan Hines Chewy Fudge Brownie Mix.

How to jazz up boxed brownie mix? ›

Add nuts – Add a handful of finely chopped pecans or walnuts if you love brownies with nuts. Add mix ins – Jazz up a basic brownie mix with chopped mini peanut butter cups, white chocolate chunks, or your favorite chopped up candy bar. Add a swirl – Swirl in spoonfuls of peanut butter or Nutella before baking.

What happens if you add too much baking powder to brownies? ›

Too much baking powder can cause the batter to be bitter tasting. It can also cause the batter to rise rapidly and then collapse. (i.e. The air bubbles in the batter grow too large and break causing the batter to fall.)

What happens if you put too much baking soda in brownies? ›

It's important not to use too much baking soda in recipes, as it can result in a metallic, soapy flavor. It is much more powerful than baking powder – you only need about 1/4 teaspoon baking soda per cup of flour to leaven baked goods.

Do brownies need brown sugar? ›

Most brownie recipes call for only granulated sugar, although some call for a ratio of both granulated and brown sugars.

What does adding an extra egg to brownie mix do? ›

If you opt to add more eggs, say double the amount, something interesting happens. Even though you are adding more moisture, the air bubbles that you catch in the extra eggs add volume, which decreases the density of your final product. This makes your brownies rise and gives them a much more cake-like texture.

What does adding milk instead of water do to brownies? ›

Brownie recipes traditionally call for water as it serves as a neutral liquid that hydrates the dry ingredients. However, using milk instead of water can impart a creamier texture and richer flavor to your brownies. The milk's fat content adds a smoothness that water cannot provide, resulting in a more indulgent treat.

How do you level up Betty Crocker brownies? ›

Throw in something decadent

Stir a handful (or two) of your favorite candy into the bowl of batter, sandwich a layer of cookies and candies in between two layers of batter or work into the topping—there really is no wrong way to load your brownies up.

Can you put uncooked brownies back in the oven? ›

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the undercooked brownies back in the baking pan they were originally baked in. Bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the brownies cool completely before cutting and serving.

Why do my brownies fall apart when I cut them? ›

Wait until your brownies have completely cooled to room temperature. As brownies cool, they will solidify and set up, so slicing into them too early can result in brownie squares that fall apart or become a mess very quickly. Note: I don't recommend slicing baked brownies until just before you plan to serve them!

What does it mean if brownies sink in the middle? ›

The temperature

Pre-heating your oven is of utmost important. Brownies also sink in the middle because they weren't baked for long enough.

What is the best brownie cake mix? ›

Which brownie is good? ›

Walnut brownie: This is a classic brownie that is loved all over the world, so it's no surprise that Theobroma's walnut brownie is a bestseller across India as well. To make our walnut brownies, walnuts are toasted and chopped before being stirred through our delectable chocolate brownie batter.

How to make brownie mix taste like homemade? ›

Peanut butter, marshmallow fluff, Nutella, caramel sauce, or white or dark chocolate fudge all make great additions when swirled into the batter. To swirl you'll make your brownies as usual then pour them into your baking dish then add dollops of the sauce you want to swirl in.
